People's House

A temple of knowledge for farmers

Although he lived in distant America and taught at a prestigious university, Mihajlo Pupin never forgot his roots and his Idvor. His wish was to leave his native village an institution that would serve the education of young people and farmers.

The People's House was built in 1936, a year after the scientist's death, but according to his instructions and with funds from his foundation. The building is monumental, in the neoclassical style, and was conceived as a “People's University” where peasants would learn about new agricultural techniques, but also about culture and the arts.

Memorial complex

Today the People's House forms a unique memorial complex together with Pupin's birth house and the old school he attended. The house contains a library, a reading room and an exhibition devoted to the life and work of the great scientist. This place is a living monument to Pupin's thought that “knowledge is the light that illuminates our path through life”.
