For the Future of the Young

Đoka Jovanović's endowment is one of the shining examples of Serbian patronage. Like many of his contemporaries, Jovanović understood that investing in education was the best way to help the fatherland.

He bequeathed his property in the centre of Belgrade to the University, with the aim that its income be used to help poor but talented students and to advance science. This building is not merely an architectural object, but a monument to a noble idea that lives on today through the funds of the University of Belgrade.
