Kolarac Endowment

The People's University

The building of the Kolarac People's University was erected in 1932, more than half a century after the death of its founder, Ilija M. Kolarac. In his will he left about 50,000 ducats for the founding of a university that would spread knowledge among the Serbian people.

The architect Petar Bajalović designed this monumental building on Studentski trg, succeeding in solving the complex problem of the plot's irregular shape. The building exudes academic severity and elegance, but its real treasure lies inside.

The Best Acoustics

The Great Hall of the Kolarac Endowment is considered the concert hall with the best acoustics in Belgrade, and perhaps in the wider region. It was built specially for musical performances, with wooden panelling that transmits sound perfectly. The greatest names of world classical music have performed here, from Arthur Rubinstein to the Moscow Philharmonic, making Kolarac a synonym for supreme art.
