Health for Forgotten Regions

At the same time as the hospital in Kumanovo was being built, the Nikola Spasić Endowment also turned to western Serbia. In the small town of Krupanj, the centre of Rađevina, a hospital was built in 1934 that was intended to improve health care in this then rather isolated region.

In his will, Nikola Spasić wished his wealth to reach every corner of the Serbian land where there was need. The Krupanj hospital was a salvation for thousands of peasants and miners from this region, for whom medical help had until then been hard to obtain.

A Lasting Asset

As in the case of other endowments, the Foundation did not merely build the facility, but also equipped it and handed it over to the state to manage, on the condition that it serve public health forever. This act was an example of how private capital can bring long-term benefit to society.
