Endowments that healed
Many benefactors saw healthcare as the most direct form of good. The Nikola and Evgenija Kiki Hospital in Belgrade was intended for poor merchants, while Nikola Spasić, through his Endowment, built hospitals in Belgrade, Kumanovo and Krupanj and a home for the infirm in Knjaževac.
Some of these institutions still operate today within the public health system, which is one of the most common ways in which endowments have passed into the common good.
