Hospital in Kumanovo

Help Where It Is Needed Most

Fulfilling the pledge of Nikola Spasić to help the people of “Southern Serbia” (as present-day North Macedonia was then called), the Board of the Endowment decided to build a modern hospital in Kumanovo.

Construction was completed in 1934. At that time, health conditions in this region were very difficult, so the facility came as a true salvation for the local population. The hospital was equipped to the highest standards of the day, and the Endowment continued to support it after its opening.

Public Health Above All

This move by the Endowment showed the breadth of Nikola Spasić’s vision – that his wealth should serve not only Belgrade, but the whole Serbian people, wherever they lived. For decades the hospital served as the main health centre for the entire Kumanovo area.
